The UHC Roundup

February 2017

​The Media Roundup is now the UHC Roundup, a publication with a new name and a broader scope.  In addition to news articles and events, the UHC Roundup highlights member programs and success stories spanning all breeds, disciplines, and regions, plus it has a new photo feature and a link to the UHC Blog.

The Right Horse!  The UHC is proud to participate in The Right Horse Initiative and support a national movement reframing the conversation about equine adoption. The Right Horse Initiative is a collective of industry professionals and equine welfare advocates working together to improve the lives of horses in transition through a dialogue of kindness and respect. We are good people for good horses, and everyone who loves horses has ownership in this movement. To learn more, visit therighthorse.org.

2017 Operation Gelding Applications Now Available
​The UHC has expanded the program and will pay up to $100 per horse gelded!

Congratulations to Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue for gelding more than 100 colts and stallions through the Operation Gelding program.

Program Highlight: Arabian Horse Association

The Arabian Horse Association has been a member of the UHC since 2010.  Comprised of 26,000 youth and adult member, the AHA is a full-service breed Association that offers a wide range of activities, programs, and competitions to learn about and become actively involved with the Arabian horse. AHA is also committed equine care and welfare, stating that welfare practices that promote kindness and love towards the four-legged animals that we love are paramount no matter what breed of horse you enjoy. Success Story: Second Stride 

​This month’s success story features Second Stride, an organization that specializes in giving retired thoroughbreds the care and training they need to succeed in something new. Author Jen Roytz (story published by the Paulick Report on 1/18/17) discovers why Second Stride has been so successful and shares an important message about retirement planning that holds true not only for racing, but for all disciplines and all breeds.
