Program Highlight: Retired Racehorse Project

One of the UHC’s newest members, RRP facilitates placement of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses in second careers by increasing demand for them in equestrian sports.
The program maintains a comprehensive resource directory, articles on training and care, and a listing of available horses in addition to monthly newsletters and a quarterly magazine. |
RRP is probably best known, however, for its $100,000 Thoroughbred Makeover & National Symposium, which is held in Lexington each October. RRP presents interesting information about the horses and trainers on their website. For instance, would you have guessed that there are more trainers entered from Pennsylvania than any other state or that 31 of the horses raced more than 50 times! Best of luck to all the trainers, and thank you for helping RRP build bridges to second careers.

Success Story: Rescues Celebrated Help A Horse Day Nationwide
According to the ASPCA website, "Help a Horse Day is a national celebration and contest to raise awareness of the plight of horses. Equine rescues and sanctuaries are encouraged to host an event highlighting the work they do and showing community members how they can help." Rescues also have a chance to win their share of $100,000 in grant funding. They did a great job and the events and stories were well represented in the press.
